MD and surveyor / QS to conservation building company 1978 - 1998. Wide ranging contracts including domestic refurbishments, renewals and ecclesiastical work. Experienced in the conservative repair of all types with traditional timber framing forming a substantial part. 'Hands on' experience of working with historic buildings of all grades including Grade 1 such as Warwick Castle and Barlaston Hall, Staffs.
1998 to date - sole practitioner running a rural practice offering help and advice to property owners including pre purchase surveys, repair schedules, QS support and architectural work including applications for planning and listed building consents.
Pro bono work includes Schools Governor to Luston Primary School - chairing fabric committee, ex churchwarden and serving PCC member of St. Leonard's, Yarpole, surveyor to Yarpole Community Building project, board member of Yarpole Educational Trust and Programme Secretary to Leominster Civic Society.
Outside interests include resident organist to St. Leonard's church, Yarpole and tenor member of the Birchpole Singers and the Halcyon choir.
I have been delighted to work with Robert Chitham ( architect ) within my own village. In conjunction with the full support of our local community we have refurbished our parish church to enhance and extend its use.
The church now houses our community shop, post office, gallery cafe and has a much improved space for services, exhibitions and performance.
This Grade 2 listed building now has the benefit of below floor heating using a wood pellet boiler, much improved levels of insulation and extensive use of recycled materials. We have a free standing belltower adjacent dated to 1195! Well worth a visit!
